ColorOfChange.org exists to strengthen Black America's political voice. Our goal is to empower our members--Black Americans and our allies--to make government responsive to the concerns of Black Americans, and to bring about positive political and social change for everyone.

We were heart-broken and outraged by the catastrophe that followed Hurricane Katrina. And we were devastated to realize that no African-American organization or coalition had the capacity to respond on the necessary scale.

Hurricane Katrina made it clear that our lack of a political voice has life-and-death consequences. With no one to speak for them, hundreds of thousands of people--largely Black, poor, and elderly--were left behind to die. But it wasn't just Black folks. Poor, sick, and elderly people of every color were abandoned too. We are not alone, and when we work to protect Black lives and interests, we do the same for all who have been left behind in political silence.

ColorOfChange.org is comprised of Black folks from every economic class, as well as those of every color who seek to help our voices be heard. Our members are united behind a simple, powerful pledge: we will do all we can to make sure all Americans are represented, served, and protected--regardless of race or class.

Any time you single out individuals based on their skin color, that is racial discrimination.

What if you single them out because they got a bad attitude and they happen to be black too..does that make you a racist?

Ok...this forum is on the verge. Of what I am not sure. First off...Lizzy...there are "bad apples" in any population regardless of ethnicity. You do not have to like everybody and just because an individual you do not like happens to be a minority does not imply you are a racist. However, we must be careful to not stereotype and judge others based on what some members of a population does, believes in, or says.
I must say I am embarrassed and disgusted by what others have done in the past and PERSIST to do in the name of "Whites". I am a Caucasian male so the images of the past and the experiences of the present make members of the Black community distrust me on first sight. You see I live in Milwaukee, WI the most ethnically segregated city in the United States and the climate here is at times very tense. I have an ethnically diverse group of friends and business associates but it took years to cultivate trust in some instances. The black community is sick of all the same BS and I do not blame them at all. They have been treated like they are just visitors and not equal American citizens...or even considered human beings.
But to be honest this dilemma is not just about a lack of voice it is also about money. Those who have it don't want anyone else to get it for money equals power and power is voice. In essence having money is to have a say in how the "game" is rigged. In my opinion our nation, or any nation for that matter, is only as strong as the weakest, only as rich as the poorest, only as educated as the most ignorant, and only as equal as the most oppressed among our citizens. In this case our country is weak, poor, ignorant, oppressed and its about time everyone in this country changes not only the mechanisms that maintain these problems but also ourselves. So we can heal and realize we are all one race...human.

4. Well put...the healing and the change starts with the individual. If enough individuals can come together through expressing commonality, there can be a movement for change. Also, with the global climate changing and mass migrations of people taking place across the planet, such a movement becomes necessary rather than desirable, even for the plutocrats.
